Here are the results of the midterm crunch...I had to completely revamp my design strategy a week before the review, so it's really quite unresolved. I'll hold my personal feelings about it until I've received some external feedback.
The good news is now I can relax and take my mind off of it for awhile.
hey john,
ReplyDeleteyou've pushed beyond your initial thinking a lot, which is great. Your second board doesn't wanna reveal itself/upload, so I can't walk through (what I think would be) your plans. Dig the exploded axon, and the bottom right render on the first board is nice, esp. digging the left bldg in that image. (speaking w/ some experience hanging out at my kids' school playground) the courtyard parti is a good choice. Kids will "own" it.
Thanks BW. I actually am really disappointed with the way the project turned out, because I think I've wasted an opportunity to do something really creative. I had to change my scheme a week before presentations, so I was unable to resolve a number of glaring issues, which didn't make for a great review. But I do think I made progress.
ReplyDeleteI do agree the courtyard parti works well, the exploded axon was the most well-received drawing of the set. They said it provided a pretty comprehensive view of what otherwise is a piecemeal scheme at this point.
There's a lot of work left to be done and hopefully I can pull of something I can be proud of. There are consistent indications of what is positive about the scheme, so I'll take those and run with it. Thanks again for the kind words.
BTW, John Enright called my project "dry." It seems I can't escape my pragmatic approach! "Everything works technically. No dead end corridors, adequate egress for each room. It's just not that exciting." Was the jist. Arghghgh! Hahaa...
So is the project over? Are you on to the next, or do you continue to work on the school? What do you mean you Had to change your scheme?!
ReplyDeleteDry? maybe a little...only in that the diagram of your bldg isn't a leap of faith to your actual design; Maybe you diagram too well! What I mean is, there's a goofy charm to the Maltzan project that probably wasn't in his parti or analysis...
You'll get where you want to be when you release your inner Goof. So to speak!
Your second board shows a lot of exploration with the different schemes. Liked that.
